OCI: Your Gateway to India

By notaryadmin | 26th October 2024 | Categories: Notary

India doesn’t recognise dual citizenship. However, it offers a valuable alternative for people of Indian origin: the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

Benefits of an OCI Card:

  • Lifelong visa for multiple entries to India
  • Exemption from police registration during stays in India
  • Parity with Non-Resident Indians in various economic, financial, and educational fields

OCI for Children

If you’re applying for an OCI card for your child (under 18), you’ll need the following documents:

  • Notarised photocopy of the child’s birth certificate: This should be attested by a notary public. For foreign-issued birth certificates, attestation by the relevant Indian embassy or consulate is also required.
  • Notarised photocopies of both parents’ passports
  • Signed OCI application form by both parents
  • Proof of Indian origin for at least one parent
  • Notarised copy of parenting orders (if applicable)

Important Note: Each child requires a separate application and set of documents.
